Simple SEO Tips for the Service Department

As Naked Lime’s Chad Haas explained in the June 2012 edition of Dealer Marketing Magazine, your dealership website isn’t just for car sales anymore.

But, if you want your service department to get noticed by more consumers and keep more consumers coming back, you’ll need to take steps to make sure your website’s service content is optimized for search engines.

Here are a number of simple search engine optimization (SEO) tips to help you get on top:

Title Tag

The Title Tag is the title that appears above the Address Bar in most web browsers. It’s also what shows up as the title of your web page in search results.

You should add a title tag for each service-related page on your website. Enter the title of the page or describe the content, and when possible include your dealership’s name and your dealership’s city (or metro area name) and state. Try to limit the content to no more than 65 characters so that your entire title tag shows up in Google.

Description Tag

The Description Tag is the narrative text that explains the content on a web page. It’s also what shows up in search results as the page description.

Here are a few examples of what you might see for service-related description tags.

A “Schedule Service” Page:

          A “Service Specials” Page:

Keyword Tags

While consumers will never see your keyword tags, adding them to your web pages is critical for getting on top in search. Keyword tags are the words and phrases that people might use to find your website through a search engine.

Here are a few examples of keyword tags for service pages:

A “Schedule Service” Page:

Heading Tag

The Heading Tag is the on-screen page title for a web page. It should be relevant and descriptive of the content on the page the consumer is viewing. In many cases, the heading tag may be the same name as the page title.

Page Content

What your web page actually says is as important as the tags you enter. For example, if you’re building or updating your main Service Department page, you’ll want to describe the main makes you service, routine services you perform, your hours of operation, and any other important descriptions that highlight your service department’s expertise and set you apart from other dealerships, as well as the independent and chain repair shops.

Keep in mind that Naked Lime Website customers can easily add all these tags and update page content in the Dealer Tool.

In addition, when you make any changes to your site, submit it to your OEM to help ensure you’re compliant with their standards and continue to receive any co-op dollars you’re eligible to receive.
